Greetings!

Welcome to the newly rolled-out MarissaTutors page! I've had a tremendous amount of support from lovely people in the greater Belmont community, and I decided to kick it up a notch with a REAL website and email address!

You may be wondering, "Who is this Marissa lady, and what does she do?" Well, that's simple--I tutor! Allow me to share my story and give you a bit of background on myself.

I went to the University of New Hampshire with a concentration of English Teaching. At UNH, I excelled not only in literature and writing, but also child psychology and educational theory. During Graduate school, I had an internship where I had my own classroom, and found out that year that the classroom was, unfortunately, not a good fit for me. Though I had a very positive experience with my students and the material, something felt off--overwhelming, perhaps. So I decided to go into the professional world.

I'm creating a career in Procurement that I really love. Nope, it's nothing at all like what I studied, but I've found a home there. My full-time job is with a major dental insurance company in Boston, and I just love it there. But about a year and a half ago, I remembered how much I missed the one-on-one interaction of teaching, and how good it felt when I saw a student improve because they were working with me.

Thus, MarissaTutors was born! I work with a wide variety of clients and age levels from middle schoolers to adult learners, and I've been able to connect with people I never would have met otherwise. I'm incredibly lucky that I've had the support in this that I have, and now more than ever, what started as a small side project is thriving.
